Lei Jiayin's Hand Hurts So Much He Can't Lift It, Announces 'Pause in Taking New Roles'

42-year-old Chinese actor Lei Jiayin won the “triple crown” of TV acting in 2022 with the period drama Ordinary People, claiming the Golden Eagle, Magnolia, and Flying Apsaras Best Actor awards. Last year, he took Best Actor at the Golden Rooster Awards for Zhang Yimou’s film The 20th Case, earning the reputation “any work with Lei Jiayin is a quality production.”

Lei Jiayin has acted in three works by Ma Boyong, including The Longest Day in Chang’an, The Lychee in Chang’an, and Antique Bureau Midgame. He admitted the most difficult was The Longest Day in Chang’an: “We filmed for 8 months, almost every day was fight scenes, my arm was constantly in pain. On the final day, the action team wrote my name on my costume, and at that moment, all the hardship felt worthwhile.”

In addition to dramas, Lei Jiayin has also appeared in films such as A Writer’s Odyssey, Antique Bureau Midgame, and Give Me Five. Asked about his standards for choosing roles, he said he’s rather spontaneous: “I don’t deliberately pick roles that are vastly different; as long as something about the character moves me, I’ll accept it.” He revealed that after completing his current filming and promotional work, he plans to take a break: “I want to relax a little, and then start anew.”
