(United States, 6th) — The death toll from flooding in central Texas continues to rise, with more than 40 people now reported dead.
Parts of Kerr County, Texas, have entered a flood emergency following severe thunderstorms. Reuters reported that Kerr County Sheriff Leitha stated at a press conference on Saturday (July 5) that the floods have claimed 43 lives so far.
CNN reported that among the victims are 15 children.
According to reports, the missing include 27 girls who were attending a summer camp. The mayor of Kerrville indicated that there may be more people still unaccounted for.
County authorities told reporters on Friday night (the 4th) that among those unaccounted for, 23 to 25 are girls registered as missing from a private all-girls church summer camp near the Guadalupe River.
