(Sibu, 2nd) Jiuting Chinese School successfully held the teacher training course "Empower Yourself, Empower Students—Awaken the Power of Self-Awareness in the Classroom" on Friday, August 29, at the school’s 'Wen Hui Hall.' This training attracted administrators and teachers from various Chinese schools in the country, including Wen Zhong, Yi Zhong, Zhong Zheng, Doudong Chinese School, Zhongling School, as well as St. Andrew's School. Nearly forty teachers gathered together to learn and grow.
The instructor for this training was Jasly Kong (Jiang Zhijing), who is full of energy, exudes classroom charisma, and is highly influential. She is a seasoned professional counselor and a certified instructor in several specialized fields. Jasly Kong has taught or trained students from diverse backgrounds in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, the United States, Mexico, and other countries, and has received excellent feedback.
During the training, Jasly Kong used a relaxed and accessible approach, introducing the session from a professional psychology perspective. With the theme "Understanding DISC Personality Types and Emotional Intelligence to Build Deep Teacher-Student Relationships," the course aimed to help educators recognize their own personality tendencies and emotional awareness. Teachers must first settle their inner selves, observe the sources of their emotions, and accept and allow them; from there, empathy can arise, and they can learn how to build more trusting and connected interactive relationships with students in the classroom, thereby unleashing their own teaching advantages and enhancing their classroom influence and educational quality.
The workshop featured a variety of activities, games, group discussions, and sharing sessions. Amid laughter and joy, teachers gained deeper self-understanding and acceptance of themselves and others. All participating teachers reported that they benefited greatly, and looked forward to the school continuing to organize
advanced courses.
The school’s principal, Tao Meihua, stated that the essence of education lies in profound connection and resonance between people. This teacher training marks an important step forward for Jiuting Chinese School, leading various schools to learn from each other in specialized fields, and demonstrates the school's emphasis on the ongoing professional development of teachers. This training was not only an opportunity for professional learning but also an important platform for inter-school cooperation and mutual advancement, contributing to the promotion of quality education. She also looks forward to organizing more quality teacher training courses involving different areas and levels in the future, to learn and share alongside peers from various schools.
