(Miri News, 26th) Miri Port Authority General Manager Serawa Budol stated that the Miri Port Authority's operations encompass various segments of the supply chain, enhancing port operational efficiency through multiple strategic collaborations.

She made these remarks last night during her speech at the New Year, Chinese New Year, 42nd Anniversary Celebration, and the launching ceremony for the MS ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management System Implementation hosted by the Miri Port Authority at the Meritz Hotel.

She pointed out that in the past five to six years, due to the shallow water issues at Kuala Baram Port Channel, the port authority took several strategic collaborations, including partnerships with private wharfs along the Miri River as a temporary solution to facilitate the import and export of goods for businesses. With the dredging project at Kuala Baram expected to start in July 2024 and complete by early 2027 or earlier, port throughput capacity will be further enhanced.

“Project consultant Serumpun Consultant and contractor Rimbun Prima-Chinese Construction Joint Venture are also present tonight. Feel free to contact them for project progress inquiries.”

Miri Port Authority actively collaborates with private companies to promote logistics and trade at various wharfs, including working with Serimas Logistics at Krokop 3 Wharf for supply ship and refueling operations; partnering with Serimas & Swee Joo Shipping at Krokop 4 Wharf for coastal container and cargo handling for Sarawak ports; collaborating with Shin Yang Shipping at Krokop 5 Wharf for container transport from Port Klang and West Malaysian ports; engaging with Lee Sing Logistics at Krokop 10 (Piasau Industrial area) for coastal cargo from West Malaysian ports; and working with Pantai Bayu Indah at Miri Wharf (Marina Bay Coco Cabana) for oil and gas and tourism vessel operations. For the second phase of the Pulau Melayu crew change wharf, they are partnering with Solid Sunland Terminal Sdn Bhd to build refueling facilities, with foundation works currently underway.

Guest of Honor Dato' Majang Renggi, Miri Port Authority Chairman Dato' Parous and guests tossing "Yu Sheng" together. She stated that these collaborations allow customers the flexibility to choose the most suitable wharfs for import and export of goods, enhancing convenience. She also expressed gratitude to the Customs Department, Sarawak Rivers Board, and other government agencies for their cooperation in expediting customs clearance processes and improving port efficiency.

“When providing these diversified services to customers, we have established various management systems as assurance and guidance to ensure we consistently deliver reliable services to meet customer needs and demands.”

In order to provide efficient and quality services, the Miri Port Authority has long implemented multiple international management systems. Since the late 1990s, they have implemented and maintained the Quality Management System QMS ISO 9001 certification, successfully upholding the system in service delivery to this day.

They have also implemented and been certified with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (ensuring port environmental safety) due to the nature of the port being a 3D industry (Dusty, Dirty, and Dangerous).

In terms of occupational health and safety, they have implemented the ISO 45001 Safety Management System, being one of the first institutions in both the public and private sectors to be certified with this standard.

Additionally, the Miri Port Authority actively promotes talent development, welcoming students from both domestic and international backgrounds for internships, including students from Curtin University, Perth, Australia.

Serawa stated that the Miri Port Authority holds a clear vision of becoming a world-class port by 2030, in line with Sarawak's "Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2023," promoting economic growth and improving people's quality of life.

She said the celebration was not only a recognition of the port authority's 42-year glorious history but also a significant moment of witness in development with various partners. On behalf of the organizing committee and Miri Port Authority, she sincerely thanked all parties for their support and looked forward to continuing to work together in promoting port development.
