Continuing to Promote Sarawak’s Development Transformation and Digital Economy – Lee Kim Shin: Cherish Diversity and Unity

(Miri, 1st) – Sarawak Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that Sarawak has always been proud of its multicultural and harmonious coexistence of various ethnic groups. The Chinese community and all clan associations have long made significant contributions to economic, cultural, and social development. The Sarawak government cherishes this united and cooperative social foundation and will continue to promote various development and transformation plans, working hand in hand with the people to build a more prosperous, inclusive, and harmonious Sarawak together.

He made these remarks last night in his speech at the Chinese New Year Celebration and the 8th Committee Inauguration Ceremony of the Sarawak State Fong Clan Association held at Pullman Hotel.

He said that over the years, the Sarawak State Fong Clan Association has actively developed, serving not only as an important platform for connecting clan members and fostering hometown ties, but also playing a stabilizing role in cultural heritage, clan mutual support, and community care. Clan organizations, as one of the key foundations of the Chinese community, embody surname culture and family values, enabling the younger generation to understand their roots and their responsibility to pass on traditions.

He congratulated the smooth inauguration of the new 2026-2027 committee, and pointed out that the role of a committee member is not just a title, but also a commitment to the clan and society. He hopes the newly appointed committee will uphold the spirit of unity and mutual assistance, listen more to the voices of fellow members, promote more communication activities, and encourage young clan members to participate in association affairs, so that tradition and modernity can develop hand-in-hand.

Speaking of the development of the digital economy, Lee Kim Shin pointed out that Sarawak is actively promoting digital transformation and has rolled out e-wallet measures, making it the only state in the country to implement such initiatives. In the future, relevant policies will continue to be promoted to drive the state's economic development.

He also thanked the clan members for celebrating his birthday at the dinner, mentioning that from morning till night he had already cut his seventh birthday cake. He was deeply moved and thanked everyone for their blessings and positive energy. He emphasized that he will continue to contribute to Miri, reiterating that everything he does is for the future of the younger generation.

He thanked the organizers and the organizing committee for their thoughtful planning and wished the association's affairs thriving success and harmony among all members.
