A Pakistani remand prisoner involved in serious crimes such as child sexual offenses and robbery astonishingly escaped within the grounds of Sungai Buloh Prison while getting off a police vehicle! Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng from DAP solemnly pointed out that this incident has exposed serious flaws in our country’s security system.
In a press statement, Lim Lip Eng said the lapse occurred during a strictly controlled law enforcement process, not during some external sudden incident, which is simply unacceptable.
He questioned whether the prisoner was handcuffed at the time, and how it was possible for him to disappear within the highly guarded prison perimeter.
“Did the Pakistani remand prisoner simply swagger out, escape by climbing over a wall, or, like in a movie, hide under a truck and slip out of the prison? Was this incident aided by insiders or through external assistance?”
Lim Lip Eng emphasized that the most crucial question is: Where is the CCTV footage? If the system was functioning properly, the entire process must have been fully recorded.
He called on the authorities to immediately release the footage so the public can see the truth. If there is no footage at all, it means that the most basic security equipment was not in place, which is an unacceptable dereliction of duty.
Lim Lip Eng stated bluntly that the people do not want to hear excuses, but want facts and evidence. He demanded that the authorities give a full account of the incident and take strict action against anyone found negligent or at fault.
“Transparency is not a choice, but a responsibility. This is not just an escapee incident, but a major test of the nation’s credibility.”
