(Bandar Seri Begawan, 1st) The grand flag raising ceremony was held this morning at the central square near the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex, marking the start of the celebration for His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei’s 80th birthday.
Minister of Home Affairs and Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Awang Haji Ahmaddin, presided over the event.
The ceremony officially commenced after Quran recitation and prayers. Officers of the Royal Brunei Navy received the large national flag, measuring 3.7 meters x 7.5 meters, from the guest of honor. Accompanied by the Royal Brunei Police Band playing the national anthem, the grand national flag was raised.
Afterwards, the choir, backed by the police brass band, performed birthday congratulatory songs and patriotic songs.
Subsequently, the guest of honor handed over national flags measuring 2.5 meters x 1.2 meters and birthday posters to the district officers of Brunei’s four districts, who then held flag-raising ceremonies at their respective district offices.
Also in attendance were high-ranking officials, including members of the main organizing committee for the birthday celebrations, members of parliament, senior and deputy permanent secretaries, district officials, representatives of various government agencies, the private sector, village heads, and community chiefs.
In addition, all citizens are encouraged to hoist the national flag starting today until the 31st of this month at homes, shops, buildings, factories, and elsewhere to warmly welcome and celebrate the 80th birthday.
