An outbreak of African swine fever has occurred at a pig farm in Taichung City, Taiwan, with more than a hundred pigs having died.

According to comprehensive reports from ETtoday News Cloud and Liberty Times Net, Taiwan's Ministry of Agriculture held an emergency press conference on the 22nd, confirming that African swine fever had tested positive at a Taichung pig farm, with 117 pigs dead.

The Ministry of Agriculture explained that to prevent the spread of the outbreak, they had conducted the preemptive culling of 195 pigs, buried the carcasses, and carried out comprehensive cleaning and disinfection. A control area with a radius of 3 kilometers from the affected farm was established, enforcing movement restrictions and investigations of pigs, closely monitoring their health, and launching an investigation to clarify the possible cause of the outbreak.

The Ministry emphasized that African swine fever is a highly contagious virus with strong environmental resilience, but it is not a zoonotic disease and there is no need for public panic. Local governments, livestock breeding organizations, pig farmers, and the public are urged to remain highly vigilant and implement stringent biosecurity measures on farms. If abnormal pig deaths or suspected animal infectious diseases are found, the local animal disease prevention authorities should be notified immediately.
