(Kuching, 2nd) Sarawak will continue to welcome and support organizers who bring in local and international artists, said Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He emphasized that the state is eager to host more concerts, as such events have not only brought but will continue to generate considerable economic benefits.
"Concerts by local and international acts attract visitors from Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia, who bring revenue to the tourism sector through hotel bookings, food and beverage, transportation, and other ancillary services," he said at the press conference for the “Samurai Phenomenon Concert” held today at the Riverside Majestic Hotel (Astana Wing).
The upcoming rock concert will be held on December 13 at the Sarawak Stadium, where two legendary Malaysian bands, XPDC and Search, will be performing on the same stage for the first time. The XPDC lineup includes Izo, Lola, Eddie, Arif, and Mamu, while Search will be headlined by the iconic Din and Kid duo.
Abdul Karim praised the organizers, Seri Simfoni Sdn Bhd and Bintang Batu Event, for bringing Malaysia’s rock legends to Sarawak. He said that the event not only allows veteran musicians to remain on stage, but also creates opportunities for emerging talents.
"In fact, Sarawak may be the only state in Malaysia that generously provides financial support to event organizers. We are willing to allocate funds to ease their burden. As long as they are willing to come to Sarawak—whether it’s music, drama, religious-themed, or other performing arts, and regardless of the age of the audience—we welcome all with open arms and inclusivity. With financial backing, ticket prices can also remain affordable," he said.
"Most importantly, the events can be organized and held successfully, benefiting the people and motivating as well as providing opportunities for those in the music and arts scene," he added.
Abdul Karim revealed that his ministry has already supported around 200 tourism products and events this year, including festivals, concerts, and sports tournaments, and expects that the number will exceed 300 by the year’s end.
He also pointed out that almost every weekend now features a marathon event in Sarawak.
Members of the bands XPDC and Search also attended the press conference and expressed their excitement to be performing together in Sarawak for the first time. They hope to attract 30,000 fans to fill the stadium.
Concert producer Ikhram Zainuddin promised to bring surprises to the audience, including giving away two limited-edition Fender electric guitars to lucky fans.
"This has to be a concert that shakes up the Malaysian music scene, and we are putting in our utmost efforts to make it happen," he said.
Ticket prices range from RM90 to RM250 and can be purchased via fenomenasamurai.ubertickets.asia.
