(Kuala Lumpur, 15th) In response to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chairman Tan Sri Azam Baki once again becoming embroiled in a shareholding controversy, DAP Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng said he still insists on supporting the statement issued by the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council on January 12, 2022, which called for Azam Baki to be temporarily suspended.
“I also believe that this issue should be listed as a specific topic for debate in Parliament before the current session ends on March 3.”
In a statement issued today, Lim Guan Eng said that at the time, Azam Baki had already been involved in a similar shareholding controversy, and the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council had issued a press statement calling for him and two others to be temporarily suspended to allow for an independent investigation into the shareholding issue.
He said that back then, Azam Baki was alleged to have held 1.93 million shares in Gets Global Berhad (formerly known as KBES Berhad), with a then-market value of about RM772,000. In addition, in March 2016, he also held 2,156,000 warrants of Excel Force MSC Berhad.
“Now, Tan Sri Azam Baki is once again embroiled in a similar shareholding controversy. According to records from the Companies Commission, at some point last year, he held 17.7 million shares in Velocity Capital Partner Berhad, as well as about 4.52 million shares in Awanbiru Technology Berhad.”
He pointed out that according to Malaysiakini's report, the shares of Velocity Capital Partner are believed to have been purchased for about RM1.5 million, while the shares in Awanbiru Technology were valued between RM1.24 million and RM1.38 million at some point.
