Top Chinese male celebrity Xiao Zhan’s starring drama Hidden Sea Legend has surpassed 2.4 billion views, making it the highest-grossing TV series of the year so far. The Hidden Sea Legend celebration banquet was originally planned for the end of June, but since Xiao Zhan was busy filming Top Secret Spy, with a grueling 12-hour daily shooting schedule, the cast and crew all coordinated their schedules and managed to squeeze in the party after attending the Shanghai Magnolia Awards ceremony.
This celebration gathering had no luxurious displays, no red carpet or spotlight—just a cozy reunion among good friends, radiating warmth and groundedness. The specially-made cake for the celebration featured shadow play elements from the series. Those in attendance included directors Zheng Xiaolong and Cao Yiwen, who appeared at the Magnolia Awards, actors Huang Jue, Xing Minshan, Qiao Zhenyu, Bai Bing, and Xiao Zhan who arrived after finishing filming.
Photos from this private gathering began circulating on social media from friends’ posts. In the pictures, Xiao Zhan shows up with the handsome short-haired look for his new drama, casually dressed and standing in the back row and still ever so radiant. Huang Jue wore an all-black outfit matched with a bucket hat for a low-key look. Most amusingly, Xiao Zhan and Huang Jue were caught making a “peace” (V) sign behind the director’s head while posing for a photo, prompting fans to tease the 30-year-old top star for being childish.
