The Taipei District Court is hearing the case involving former Taiwan People's Party chairman and former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je in the Jinghua City profiteering case. Regarding Peng Zhensheng's wife falling to her death, Ko Wen-je said at the end of the hearing, “I am truly shocked,” adding that he feels deeply sorry to the affected team members and families, “Because of me, everyone has suffered.”
The Jinghua City corruption case broke out last year, after which Hsieh Hsia-chiao was summoned by prosecutors and investigators as a witness. Peng Zhensheng, implicated in the case, was detained for four months last year, and later chose to plead guilty during the investigation phase. He was released on bail of 5 million New Taiwan Dollars (approximately 719,400 ringgit), becoming the first defendant to be released, but was eventually indicted by prosecutors, who are seeking a three-year prison sentence.
The police confirmed that 72-year-old Hsieh Hsia-chiao was found lying in the courtyard of a high-rise building in Kaohsiung on the morning of the 1st. Paramedics arrived to find her clearly deceased, with multiple fractures to her limbs, and she was not taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
