(Kuching, 24th) The current younger generation needs to pay attention to Sarawak’s struggle to regain territorial rights accorded under the Malaysia Agreement (MA63).
Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian said that they need to be aware of the latest developments in their efforts so that the struggle may continue in the future.
“This is why we continue to educate, because one day, when we are gone, we do not want to be in a situation where we know nothing about what happened.”
He said, this is because those who knew about this matter might have passed away and had no time to inform us, and when we want to reclaim (the rights), we do not know how or where to start, nor which agreements have been reached and which have not, etc.
Sim Kui Hian stated this when speaking to reporters after attending the establishment ceremony of Mango Media (Borneo) Sdn Bhd today.
He added that Sarawak’s struggle to restore its rights is not as aggressive as reported by the media today, but is conducted through amicable negotiations with the federal government.
“We are not aggressive, because in the past we did not know our rights, and we do not wish to blame others.”
Sim Kui Hian pointed out that for many years, we did not know our rights, but now we do, right? Now we want to exercise those rights, including our autonomy in medical and educational matters.
