Wang Yi: US and Iran Must Never Rekindle War

Published at Jun 25, 2026 11:52 am
According to China News Service, Wang Yi spoke by phone with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar on Wednesday evening at the latter's request.

Dar reported on the situation regarding the new phase of negotiations between Iran and the United States, thanked China for its consistent and firm support for Pakistan's peace mediation efforts, and expressed Pakistan's hope to continue close coordination and cooperation with China in jointly playing a constructive role to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

Wang Yi thanked Pakistan for promptly informing China about the new phase of Iran-US negotiations, stating that the Iran-US memorandum is the result of joint efforts by the international community, with Pakistan playing a key and unique role in it. The peace process has just begun, and the road ahead may be long, winding, and challenging. China will, as always, support Pakistan and like-minded countries in continuing to play a constructive role and is willing to maintain close communication and coordination with Pakistan.

Wang Yi said that in the next phase, efforts should focus on three key tasks. First is to consolidate the comprehensive ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, and never allow war to break out again. The Iran-US memorandum accords with Iran's fundamental and long-term interests and also meets the general expectations of the international community. China is willing to join all parties in firmly supporting the negotiations to proceed without interference.

Second is to restore normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible and ensure the stability of the global supply chain. Arrangements for the strait should respect the sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests of coastal countries, while also being in line with international practice and the common wishes of all nations.

Third is to support Middle Eastern countries in improving relations with each other as soon as possible and in exploring new regional security frameworks. The Middle East, including the Gulf, must not become an arena for great power rivalry and a victim of geopolitical competition. Regional countries should uphold genuine strategic autonomy and truly take their destiny into their own hands. The crux of the Middle East issue remains the Palestinian issue; China calls on regional countries to form a more unified voice and take more coordinated actions to resolve the Palestinian issue, implement the two-state solution as soon as possible, and achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
