Two Consecutive Days of Train Derailments in the UK

The British Transport Police announced on social media on the 14th that a train derailed that afternoon in Essex, England, but did not overturn. There have been no reports of injuries so far.

This is the second consecutive day that a train derailment has occurred in the UK.

The previous afternoon, a train carrying about 150 people derailed near Lewes railway station in East Sussex, England. The train cars overturned, resulting in at least 20 people being injured, two of whom are in serious condition.

Network Rail's Safety and Engineering Director, Frobisher, pointed out that the unprecedented hot and dry weather this summer has posed severe challenges for railway operations.

He urged the public not to speculate recklessly about the cause of the accident.

He said: "I want to assure them that the safety standard of UK railways remains among the best in the world, and safety is always our top priority in railway operations."

He pledged that the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) and Network Rail will carry out investigations into the derailments that will "consider all possible causes and factors."
