(Kuching, Jan 4)Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Public Complaint Bureau chief Milton Foo Tiang Wee hopes the public will remain vigilant and not easily trust overseas job offers, especially when the employer's background is unclear, to avoid unnecessary risks.
Milton Foo pointed out at a press conference today that a 23-year-old woman, Huang Weiru, is suspected of being kidnapped across borders and is currently missing. Her family is extremely worried and hopes the public can help provide clues.
He disclosed that on the morning of December 30 last year, Huang Weiru was sent to Kuching International Airport by her father, initially informing her family that she was going to Kuala Lumpur for work. However, in the evening, Huang Weiru's brother discovered her passport was not at home and, upon contacting his sister, learned that she planned to work in Cambodia.
“Upon arriving in Kuala Lumpur, Huang Weiru sent her brother a photo via social media showing she was living in an apartment with three women, and then lost contact with her family.”
He said Huang Weiru spoke with a tone of fear over the phone, only stating she was safe and promised to call once a week but did not reveal her specific location.
Milton Foo emphasized that, as Huang Weiru's current location cannot be confirmed, the Public Complaints Bureau will hand over the case to the Sarawak Foreign Affairs Office to contact embassies in relevant countries for investigation and to initiate a search operation through local police.
