The '2026 Indonesian Chinese Lunar New Year Grand Gala' was held on the evening of the 26th in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, with the theme of ‘Harmony and Shared Fortune’. Representatives from Indonesian political, cultural, and Chinese community circles gathered together to celebrate the Spring Festival.
Ma Gang, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, stated in his speech that the Spring Festival is a world intangible cultural heritage, a traditional festival and public holiday shared by both the Chinese and Indonesian people, carrying meanings of reunion, blessings, hope, and happiness. Recently, Indonesia officially designated the 2026 Spring Festival as a national celebration, demonstrating the concept of multicultural integration and harmonious coexistence among different ethnic groups, which is highly consistent with the core values conveyed by Chinese Spring Festival culture.
The grand gala opened with a flag dance, as dancers wielded colorful banners with agility and energy, quickly warming up the atmosphere. Traditional Chinese lion dance and Indonesian Hadroh dance followed one after another, with the audience frequently bursting into applause and cheers.
During the evening, the Indonesian Bamboo Horse Dance, Cirebon Mask Dance, Palembang Zapin Dance, and Chinese Long Sleeve Dance and Martial Arts performances were presented in succession, showcasing the beauty of multicultural blending. The Chinese Thousand-Hand Guanyin Dance and Indonesian Saman Dance from Aceh were performed side by side, symbolizing the integration and mutual understanding of the two civilizations through cultural exchange.
