Mayday Will Perform at Genting on 11/29, Joking They Might Not Make It Back If They Lose Everything and Turn the Concert Into a Charity Show

The popular Taiwanese rock band Mayday will take the stage at the Genting Arena of Stars on November 29 (Saturday), marking their first ever concert at Genting since debuting. Facing this brand new experience of “performing up the mountain,” the members are all extremely excited. Lead vocalist Ah Pu joked, “I’m worried the members might not ‘make it back’!” As soon as he said this, everyone burst out laughing and agreed, “It’s going to be so much fun.” Ah Pu then added with another joke, “Afraid we’ll lose everything and not make it back!” The bassist chimed in with a laugh, “Then it’ll turn into a ‘charity concert!’” Their playful back-and-forth brought lots of laughter to the online interview.

Mayday consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Ah Pu, keyboardist Xiao Ju, guitarist Liu Bi, bassist Ba Tian, and drummer Ah Dian. This is their first performance in Malaysia in two years. Talking about their feelings for this first concert at Genting, Ah Pu said with a smile, “I’ve heard about Genting since I was a kid, and finally this time we can bring our tour up the mountain—it’s really something to look forward to. I hope everyone will come up the mountain and have fun with us.”

When asked if they are worried about high-altitude pressure, the members stayed lighthearted and playful. Someone asked, “Will there be altitude sickness at Genting?”, “Will it be too cold at Genting, do we need to bring down jackets?” and someone else joked, “Will it snow?” Ah Pu followed up, “Then we better get our chips ready.” Ah Dian joked further, “Hope we can get rich overnight!”

As for whether they’ve prepared a special setlist for this concert, Mayday revealed each stop will feature some adjustments. Ah Pu explained, “Everyone can look forward to it. We’ll also have a song request segment. Hopefully, you’ll surprise us with your requests and we’ll see which songs you pick.” Xiao Ju added with a laugh, “If someone requests a song even we don’t know how to play, that would really be a surprise!”

They are also calling on fans to interact enthusiastically at the show, hoping the audience will write the songs they want to hear on boards and raise them up to communicate with the band on the spot. Xiao Ju smiled and said, “Every time I look forward to seeing fans show up in different outfits. If someone dresses especially uniquely, I’ll definitely remember them. Everyone can put some thought into your look—it’ll make the concert even more interesting and fun.”

Speaking of their recent music, Mayday said their sixth album is in the works and will be released as singles one at a time, continuing to surprise fans. They also revealed that they will debut their new song ‘People Without Wings’ at the Genting concert, and perform the already released ‘The Craziest Artist’. Ah Pu noted, “Being able to sing a new song for Malaysian fans right away is a special experience for us. We’re really looking forward to everyone’s reaction.”
