Trump's Name Removed from Exterior Wall of Kennedy Center

(USA, 14th) Workers have removed the name of US President Trump from the exterior wall of Washington’s famous Kennedy Center.

According to AFP, Kennedy Center Executive Director Deborah Rutter stated in legal documents submitted on Saturday (June 13) that they had “removed all physical signage bearing Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center building and premises.”

As of Saturday afternoon, the Kennedy Center exterior wall was still covered with a white waterproof cloth, which is part of the project to remove Trump’s name.

The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Friday (12th) rejected the appeals from the US government and the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees, upholding the previous ruling by the federal district court and ordering the removal of Trump’s name from the venue.

A group of anti-Trump activists kept vigil at the construction site on Friday until late-night thunderstorms forced workers to stop. In addition to the crowd present, tens of thousands more watched remotely via livestream.

Earlier this week, the Kennedy Center had already removed Trump’s name from its website.

Since returning to the White House in January last year, Trump has actively integrated himself into the US political system. He appointed himself as the chairman of the center and filled the board with many loyal supporters.

Subsequently, in December last year, the board voted to rename the center as the “Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Memorial Center.”

Trump’s name was quickly displayed in large prominent letters above Kennedy’s name on the Kennedy Center’s exterior wall, causing a wave of performance cancellations and a sharp drop in ticket sales for remaining events.

Elsewhere in Washington, the now-closed United States Institute of Peace was also renamed the Trump Institute, and his portrait appeared on large banners on the exterior walls of the Department of Justice and the Department of Agriculture.

Selba Rolli, a 42-year-old Washington resident, said the Kennedy Center is “one of my favorite places,” and that removing Trump’s name was “a major victory.”

65-year-old Martin agreed. He said, “Some people might think this is just an irrelevant... sign. But the fact is, we cannot deprive this beautiful building of the honor granted by Congress, because it was established to commemorate President John F. Kennedy. President Kennedy fully deserves it, and his name should be protected.”
