Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung were once a golden couple on the screen. They got married in 2006 and had two sons, but their relationship ended quietly in 2011, leaving countless fans heartbroken. Recently, renowned Hong Kong director Wong Jing recalled past events on his own YouTube program "Wong Jing Laughs at Jianghu,” revealing that he had long sensed on set that this marriage would be difficult to last—and the key reason turned out to be a habitual action of Cecilia Cheung.
Wong Jing disclosed that Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung sparked romance while filming "Old Master Q," and their relationship heated up quickly. Back then, when Nicholas Tse was injured during shooting, Cecilia Cheung was so caring that she tended to his wounds almost every night, unable to hide her deep affection. After their marriage, while filming "Treasure Inn," Wong observed Cecilia often displaying her motherly side, personally cooking for child actors in heartwarming scenes. However, Wong Jing bluntly said that while Cecilia was cooking, she would frequently complain to Nicholas Tse, which made him doubtful on the spot: “If you’re like this every day, with so many grievances and even voicing them in front of everyone, this marriage is really hard to maintain.”
He admitted that at the time, the script required a “Cecilia Cheung's husband” character, but he didn’t dare to ask Nicholas Tse to play the part, fearing awkwardness, and had to invite Ekin Cheng to fill in. Looking back, Wong Jing said that Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung’s divorce was not a surprise, but rather due to irreconcilable personality differences. He remarked frankly that, although the two once deeply loved each other, the cracks in their relationship became irreparable under the pressures of marriage and family.
