US Treasury Secretary: Sino-US Negotiations 'A Bit Stalled,' Trump-Xi Call Could Help

US Treasury Secretary Beisente stated on the 29th that the trade negotiations between the US and China are "a bit stalled," and a phone call between the leaders of China and the US might be necessary for an agreement to be reached.

In an interview with Fox News, he said: "What I can say is that the negotiations are a bit stalled. I think, considering the scale and complexity involved, it will require the personal involvement of the leaders of both countries."

He believes that "in the coming weeks" more meetings will be held with Chinese officials, but the personal involvement of President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is crucial to the Sino-US trade negotiations.

He said: "They have a good relationship, and I believe that when President Trump expresses his willingness, the Chinese will sit down to negotiate."

Beisente also pointed out that several major trade agreements are about to be reached, with tariff negotiations entering deeper stages.

In early May, Beisente held an ice-breaking meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Switzerland. He Lifeng is the leader for China's side in Sino-US trade talks, and US Trade Representative Grill also attended the meeting.

After the Geneva talks, China and the US reached an agreement to substantially reduce tariffs within 90 days. Both parties indicated they would continue discussions on economic and trade relations.
