(Kuching, 18th) As of 8am yesterday, a total of 24 schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Sarawak have been affected by floods.
According to the Ministry of Education, this includes 22 primary schools and 2 secondary schools.
"Overall, a total of 53 educational institutions in Sabah and Sarawak have been affected by the floods.
"In Sabah, 24 primary schools and 5 secondary schools have been impacted," the Ministry stated in a statement today.
The statement added that due to the disaster, six MOE-affiliated schools have currently been activated as temporary evacuation centers (PPS).
"Of these, five are in Sabah and one is in Sarawak," the statement emphasized.
The Ministry of Education further explained that through the Sabah and Sarawak State Education Departments, emergency assistance is being provided to all affected educational institutions.
"The Ministry also continues to monitor the flood situation to ensure disaster preparedness, safety, and the well-being of students, teachers, and all education staff," the statement mentioned.
In addition, the Ministry expressed deep condolences and sympathy to the families of the four students who lost their lives due to floods and landslides in certain parts of Sabah.
