(Miri, 13th) Organized by the Sarawak Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family, and Childhood Development of Sarawak, the 'Sejambak Kasih' care event was held today at Miri Parkcity Hotel in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak Festival. It aims to ease the economic burden of disadvantaged groups before the festive season, allowing them to prepare for the celebration with peace of mind.
This significant aid event was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family, and Childhood Development of Sarawak, Dato Rosey, who also presented aid money and gift baskets on behalf.
In her speech, she stated that according to the data from the Sarawak Welfare Department, a total of 1,134 recipients of welfare aid in the Miri region will be celebrating the Gawai Dayak Festival this year. Among them, 150 individuals were invited to attend today's onsite event, with each receiving RM100 in aid money and a food gift basket sponsored by Parkcity Hotel worth RM150. An additional 100 recipients will collect their cash aid at another event to be held on May 16 at the Niah Sepupok Community Hall. The aid money for the remaining 884 who cannot attend will be directly deposited into their bank accounts.
She stated that, looking at the entire Sarawak, a total of 24,101 welfare aid recipients celebrating the Gawai Festival this year will receive RM100 in aid money, amounting to RM2,410,100, which represents 43% of welfare aid recipients across Sarawak.
She highlighted that up until April 2025, the Sarawak Welfare Department has disbursed a total of RM98,816,400 in aid money to various aid recipients across Sarawak. In Miri alone, there are 4,513 beneficiaries, amounting to a disbursement of RM8,611,300 in aid.
She emphasized that the government will continue to care for disadvantaged groups, ensuring that everyone shares in the festive joy. She urged the public to remember safety and thriftiness amidst the celebrations.
