(Miri, 7th) Deputy Minister of the Sarawak Prime Minister's Department, Dato , stated that indigenous communities should continue to unite and support the Sarawak government. It has been proven that the Sarawak government is capable of taking care of and ensuring our future.
He said that indigenous people are a minority, accounting for only about 6% of Sarawak's total population. We need to strengthen unity and work in the same direction with the government to create a more advanced, harmonious, and safe future. I hope we continue to support the Sarawak government and the leadership of the Prime Minister, as it has been proven that he is capable of taking care of Sarawak and its people.
Datuk Gerawat Gala made these remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the Culture Center of the Sarawak Inland Ethnic Union yesterday evening.
He pointed out that the Sarawak government has planned many projects and developments for the inland residents, so let us unite with the government to create a more stable and prosperous future.
"It is unexpected that the inland community could work together to build a large center, so everyone must continue to cooperate to achieve more accomplishments."
He also mentioned that to have a unique cultural center, he applied for land to carry out the construction from the late former Chief Minister Adenan when he was the Chairman of the Sarawak Inland Ethnic Union in 2014, and received Adenan's approval. At that time, land in Kuala Banang was granted, but it was once shelved due to high construction costs.
"In 2017, the union once again proposed to the Prime Minister Abang Johari, and received approval for an allocation of RM32 million to relocate to the current site for construction. The center was completed in August this year, and obtained the occupation certificate from Miri City Council on October 11."
He stated that because the center can accommodate 100 tables for banquets, the initially designed 150 parking spots are insufficient. To meet the needs of hosting large events, the union later applied to the Prime Minister and received an additional RM5 million to add over 250 parking spots, and there will also be additions of exhibition halls and kitchens.
Besides the cultural center opening ceremony last night, a pre-Christmas celebration was also held.
