(Miri, 10th) The inaugural Hopo Nursery Rhyme Short Video Competition, initiated by the Federation of Hopo Associations of Malaysia (Persatuan Hopo Malaysia), has officially been launched. Organized by the Youth League of the federation, the competition is co-organized by the Hopo associations of Johor, Kluang, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor-Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak, and Miri, aiming to preserve and promote the culture of Hopo nursery rhymes.
The recording and form submission event in Miri will be held on February 22, 2025 (Saturday) from 8 AM to 12 PM at the Miri Hopo Association Hall. All interested participants are encouraged to attend on time. According to Zhang Hongqing, the leader of the Sarawak Miri Hopo Association, Hopo nursery rhymes, which are traditional songs from the Hopo region in Guangdong Province, China, carry strong local characteristics and cultural value. They not only showcase local customs and history but also convey wisdom and emotions.
With their simple, rhythmic language style, Hopo nursery rhymes have become a cultural treasure passed down through generations. The lyrics are easy to understand, and the melodies are cheerful, providing both entertainment and early educational functions. Zhang Hongqing pointed out that singing nursery rhymes accompanies children's growth, embedding the history and culture of their hometown into the memories of each generation.
Miri District Preparatory Committee Chairman Zhang Weiyu expressed hopes that this event will attract more young people and culture enthusiasts to participate, combining modern knowledge with the inheritance and innovation of Hopo nursery rhymes. This ensures that this cultural treasure continues to shine in the future, becoming an important part of the diversity of Chinese culture.
In recent years, with the progress of modernization, traditional culture faces challenges in communication channels. The revival of Hopo nursery rhymes has become especially important, with various sectors beginning to emphasize their protection and promotion. Efforts are being made through school education, cultural exhibitions, and multimedia platforms to help more young people understand this unique cultural heritage.
The competition offers a maximum share bonus of 1000 MYR and a highest view bonus of 1500 MYR. Participants need to record their works based on 10 nursery rhyme samples provided by the organizers. To promote the popularity of Hopo nursery rhymes, the organizers have decided to waive the registration fee, encouraging the public to participate actively.
