(Kuching, 27th) The imminent acquisition of Maswings and the planned development of a new international airport will serve as catalysts to propel Kuching into a new aviation hub.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that the assessment process for acquiring Malaysia Airlines' Maswings has been completed, with the next step being the signing of the agreement.

"I sincerely hope that we will witness the realization of our aspiration to own our own airline between the Lunar New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri by acquiring Maswings from the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG)."

"With a business model suitable for our goals and the construction of a new ultra-modern international airport in Kuching, I believe we can develop the new airline into a competitive regional airline and advance Kuching as a new aviation hub."

He made these remarks while delivering his Chinese New Year message today.

On another note, Abang Johari expressed gratitude to the members of the Sarawak Economic Action Council (SEAC), comprised of both public and business sectors, for deliberating and planning the way forward for Sarawak's economic transformation post-pandemic.

He said these collective efforts contributed to the formulation of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, a strategy based on economic prosperity, social inclusiveness, and environmental sustainability.

"I am proud to say that Sarawak has devised a structured and concrete plan to guide the state towards becoming a developed and high-income region by 2030. Other state governments and overseas entities have visited us, expressing interest in studying and implementing PCDS 2030."
