GD Can't Take Drug Scandal Anymore, Takes Major Action to Sue Media

Korean music superstar G-DRAGON (GD, Kwon Ji-yong) was embroiled in the actor Lee Sun-kyun drug scandal in 2023. Although the National Forensic Service ultimately confirmed he was “not suspected” and cleared his name, some media continued to steer public opinion with speculative reports. On the 24th, he officially took action and filed lawsuits against related reporters and media outlets, fully fighting back against outside suspicions with a firm stance. As for the specifics of who is being sued, the agency said it could not reveal the list.

Lee Sun-kyun was charged with drug use in October 2023, and during the period there were reports that a club hostess allegedly supplied marijuana to GD. However, GD repeatedly emphasized he hadn't touched drugs, even proactively went to the police for investigation and gave public interviews to defend his rights. Although the forensic results later confirmed he was not under suspicion, public pressure had already spiraled out of control. At that time, GD gave a desperate interview, tearing up and choking back sobs as he said, “I really don't know what to say.”

After the scandal settled, the public thought the incident was over, but in fact, various rumors and false statements about GD kept circulating online, and some media also followed up with reports. This prompted him to decide not to back down anymore. This time, GD is not only taking legal action against malicious commenters, but is also including media outlets that raised doubts as targets of his lawsuits.

According to a report by MHN Sports, people in legal circles also confirmed that the list of those GD is suing includes some online media operators. However, as for specific names and details, the agency said it could not disclose them.

In fact, after the police determined GD was not suspected of drug use, the company had already filed suits against over 100 people for spreading false information and defamation. This time, with media outlets included as targets, some legal experts analyze that this move signals a shift from pursuing individual responsibility to holding information producers accountable. Whether this will affect how entertainment news is reported in the future has become a topic of concern.
