The 19th Asian Film Awards were held on the 15th at the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon, Hong Kong. Actress Zhang Ziyi was awarded the "Excellence in Asian Cinema Award." In an interview, she couldn't hide her joy, stating that the award was very important to her. She previously won Best Actress for "The Grandmaster," but feels this time the honor is even greater and she's more relaxed. Talking about her bond with Hong Kong, Zhang Ziyi revealed: “In the past, I always felt quite tense when I came to Hong Kong, because it seemed like paparazzi were following me everywhere, but now that's gone.” She also mentioned attending the “Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild” award ceremony a few days ago, noting that communication with Hong Kong media was completely smooth. She praised the media for being very friendly, originally expecting tricky questions, but in the end all questions focused on movies, which made her feel relaxed and happy.
When asked what kind of roles she still wants to challenge after so many years in her career, Zhang Ziyi said she wants to encounter more soul-intriguing characters and also hopes to film works rooted in realism, in order to pay attention to current society. She revealed that she will soon begin shooting and joked that she might just get her wish. As for her experience as a director, she said: “Directing was something I was asked to do. Looking back, I found it quite interesting, but handling both directing and acting was very tough, because sometimes it feels a bit like split personality. You have to stay in character, but at other times you have to step back and see the whole picture, so it's quite a difficult thing. However, if there's a good script, I’m willing to try again.”
