(Kuching, 19th) Kota Sentosa representative Yap Yao Xing insists that Sarawak's Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin has fully addressed the concerns of DAP's Padungan representative Chong Chieng Jen, refuting claims that Lee Kim Shin avoided issues related to the awarding of a RM122 million contract to a joint venture company for supplying hydrogen-powered buses in Sarawak.
It is reported that the controversy arose from Chong Chieng Jen's accusation yesterday that Lee Kim Shin failed to adequately respond to the concerns raised by DAP's Violet Yong regarding the contract awarding process during the department's summary.
In a press conference today, Yap Yao Xing cited records from the Sarawak Parliament to refute Chong Chieng Jen's statements.
He emphasized that Lee Kim Shin has explained that the joint venture company met all the technical and financial requirements, underwent a thorough review process, and offered the lowest bid, 34% lower than the second-lowest bidder. Additionally, the company's partners demonstrated strong financial stability and sufficient credit facilities to execute the project.
“Contrary to Chong Chieng Jen's claims, we can see from the parliamentary records that the facts clearly show that Lee Kim Shin has provided a comprehensive response to Violet Yong's questions.”
Furthermore, Yap Yao Xing responded to Chong Chieng Jen's complaint about being deprived of the opportunity to question Lee Kim Shin during the speech.
He said that according to parliamentary rule 33(b), interruption is only allowed if agreed upon by the speaker and approved by the Speaker.
“The minister has the right to complete his summary speech without interruption from Chong Chieng Jen, so Chong Chieng Jen should adhere to and comply with parliamentary rules.”
