Inner Wheel District 331 Fellowship night to remember the beautiful blend of tradition, music, leadership appreciation, and shared purpose

MIRI, March 25 – The Fellowship Night for the 13th Annual General Meeting (DAGM) of Inner Wheel District 331 held here was celebrated with warmth, camaraderie, and culture

Featuring beautiful blend of tradition, music, leadership appreciation, and shared purpose.

District Chairman (DC) Cecilia Amid and National Representative (NR) Shanti Menon jointly graced the occasion which was opened with a warm welcome performance of “Datun Julud”, a traditional Orang Ulu dance, presented by IWC Miri members led by Treasurer Ganit Tebaran.

It was followed by Inner Wheel Tradition with lighting of the Candle of Friendship by Past NR, Rokiah Staun and Poem recitation by District Extension Chairman, Alice Lau, then Toss to the Sarawak’s Head of State, TYT by incoming District Chairman, DC Jane Lian Labang, which Cecilia led the toss to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong, and Shanti led the toss to the International Inner Wheel.
 
Cecilia in her speech thanked the organizing committee led by President Diana Rose for successfully hosting the DAGM and related events adding that “Tonight, we celebrate not only our district’s achievements but also the invaluable relationships built along the way.” Thus, she
also urged members to continue fostering collaboration and service.

Shanti meanwhile paid tribute to the district's energy and resilience. “District 331 may be small in number, but you are truly big in heart,” she said.

She commended the district’s initiative in visiting District 330 recently to meet International Inner Wheel President Mamta Gupta, describing it as a reflection of unity and shared vision. She encouraged efforts to grow the membership base and establish new clubs to ensure continued progress.

Adding a festive spirit to the evening were cultural and modern dance performances, as well as lively karaoke sessions that saw cheerful participation from both leaders and members. Among those who took part were Shanti, Cecilia, Diana, and several others, whose enthusiasm lit up the stage and brought laughter and joy to the room.

A key highlight was the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the outgoing District Executive Committee (DEXCO), led by Cecilia. In her remarks, she acknowledged their hard work and commitment over the past term. This was followed by the symbolic handing over of the chain of office to incoming District Chairman Jane, who will serve from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

In her maiden speech, Jane urged members to continue serve with dedication, what she termed as “sunrise spirit” defying their age and be motivated not only to empower themselves but the community at large. 

Also present at the dinner was incoming NR, Datin Gillian Lee. A total of  voting delegates and observers as well as guests from Inner Wheel Clubs of Kota Kinabalu, Freesia Rose, Kuching, Sibu and host Miri attended the dinner. They were also treated to a sumptuous buffet spread that highlighted Sarawak’s unique culinary heritage. Among the local favourites served were Ayam Pansuh – chicken cooked in bamboo, and Umai, a famous Melanau raw fish salad, both of which delighted the guests and offered a taste of local tradition.

The dinner which wasn’t just a celebration of achievements—it was a reaffirmation of the Inner Wheel’s enduring values of friendship, service, and unity. As laughter echoed and hands joined in dance, members left with renewed energy and a shared commitment to continue uplifting
communities through compassion and collaboration.
