63-year-old Hong Kong singer Huang Kaiqin was known as the "Prince of Love Songs" in the 1980s. He rose to fame with popular songs such as "Qing Shen Yuan Qian," "Late Autumn," "Sorrowful Lovers," and "Lovers in the Rain," and became a sensation in China with his song "Late Autumn." However, after a fallout with his management company, he left the music industry and immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1994 to pursue a career in interior design.
Rumors have it that Huang Kaiqin is currently serving as a judge on TVB's "Voice of Middle Age 3." In a recent interview on the online program "Health Dan" hosted by Zheng Danrui, he mentioned feeling guilty towards his family for leaving the music industry to move to Vancouver. During the program, Zheng Danrui noted that Huang Kaiqin worked as a DJ before becoming a singer, to which Huang Kaiqin admitted. Eventually, he transitioned to a career as a singer-songwriter with smooth progress but suddenly chose to leave the Hong Kong music scene to move to Canada. When pressed for reasons by Zheng Danrui, Huang Kaiqin explained: "Back then, the song 'Late Autumn' was a big hit in China. Later, a Cantonese version was released, and my manager wanted me to cover it." At the time, Huang Kaiqin strongly disagreed with this approach as he always aspired to be a singer-songwriter. Ultimately, he felt that since he was already well-known in Hong Kong, starting over with a new job from scratch seemed challenging, leading him to choose to start anew in Vancouver.
