(Bandar Seri Begawan, 20th) The Brunei Fire and Rescue Department conducted the “LAPU Drill” in Kampong Ayer yesterday, simulating a fire emergency and search and rescue (SAR) operations in school buildings and on water surfaces, aiming to comprehensively enhance emergency response capabilities for water-based scenarios and the effectiveness of operational procedures.

The primary objectives of this drill include testing the execution effectiveness of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in water-based emergencies, improving the preparedness and operational efficiency of rescue personnel, assessing the functionality of relevant machinery and boat equipment, and raising safety awareness among residents and school staff, specifically addressing the unique needs of the Kampong Ayer environment.

The drill covered multiple scenarios, one of which simulated a school classroom fire where students were trapped and needed to be quickly evacuated to a safe area. The entire exercise was meticulously planned to ensure public safety was not affected and was conducted under the strict control and supervision of the Fire and Rescue Department.

Joint chairman and Fire and Rescue Department Commander Suhaib stated that the exercise aims to test frontline personnel's understanding of standard operating procedures, communication skills, role allocation, and execution capabilities during sudden emergencies, ensuring a swift response in real crises.

He added that the drill was supported by nearby fire and rescue stations and multiple units, including the Special Rescue Team (SATREA), divers, the fire and rescue medical team, the drone unit, and the Kampong Ayer volunteer team, effectively enhancing the realism and coordination level of the exercise.

The Fire and Rescue Department also informed the public in advance that this activity was a controlled drill rather than a real incident. The deployment of fire trucks and rescue personnel during the drill was part of the pre-arranged simulation content, aimed at strengthening overall disaster response capabilities.
