Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that China will continue to speak up for Myanmar on multilateral platforms, support Myanmar's participation in more dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, and promote positive interactions with ASEAN.

According to China News Service, on Saturday local time (April 25), Myanmar’s newly appointed President Min Aung Hlaing met with Wang Yi, member of the Chinese Communist Party’s Political Bureau and Foreign Minister, in Naypyidaw.

Min Aung Hlaing asked Wang Yi to convey his good wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, and sincerely thanked Xi for promptly congratulating him on his election as president, sending a special envoy to attend his inauguration ceremony, and supporting Myanmar’s economic development and post-earthquake reconstruction.

Min Aung Hlaing stated that Myanmar always regards Myanmar-China relations as its most important bilateral relationship, is unwavering in adhering to the "One China" principle, and highly appreciates and actively supports the four major global initiatives proposed by Xi Jinping (the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative).

The new Myanmar government also looks forward to strengthening high-level exchanges with China, promoting the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, expanding cooperation in energy, economy and trade, infrastructure and other fields, accelerating Myanmar’s development and revitalization, jointly safeguarding border peace and stability, continuously deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Myanmar and China, jointly creating a model for state-to-state relations, and jointly building a Myanmar-China community of shared destiny.

Min Aung Hlaing emphasized that Myanmar will never allow any behavior on Myanmar’s territory that could harm China’s interests, will continue to step up efforts to combat online gambling and telecommunication fraud, and will take measures to effectively protect the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in Myanmar.

Wang Yi conveyed Xi Jinping’s greetings to Min Aung Hlaing, saying that Xi’s congratulatory message to Min Aung Hlaing on his election as president and the dispatch of a special envoy to attend the inauguration fully reflect the high importance Chinese leaders attach to developing China-Myanmar relations.

Wang Yi said that China and Myanmar are linked by mountains and rivers with a profound "pauk-phaw" (fraternal) friendship. China’s policy toward Myanmar is consistent and can be summarized as three "firm supports": firmly supporting Myanmar in following a successful development path suited to its own national conditions and supported by its people; firmly supporting Myanmar in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity; and firmly supporting Myanmar in achieving national peace, ethnic reconciliation, and social harmony.

Wang Yi pointed out that this year is the first year of the new Myanmar government’s administration, and both sides should take this as an opportunity to inherit and carry forward the traditional friendship, open up new prospects for bilateral relations, and promote new achievements in building a China-Myanmar community of shared destiny.

Wang Yi said that practice has proven that building a community of shared destiny between China and Myanmar fully meets the needs of the two countries’ development and revitalization, and is in line with the fundamental interests of both peoples. Both sides should resolutely continue down this path. China supports the Myanmar government’s five key policy priorities, and wishes to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic coordination, and promote bilateral cooperation around post-earthquake reconstruction to help Myanmar rebuild its economic systems as soon as possible and enhance its independent development capabilities.

China is also willing to cooperate with Myanmar to resolutely and thoroughly eliminate the scourge of online gambling and telecommunication fraud. China will continue to speak up for Myanmar on multilateral platforms, support Myanmar's participation in more dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, and promote positive interactions with ASEAN.

During his visit to Myanmar, Wang Yi also held talks with Myanmar Foreign Minister Than Swe and jointly witnessed the exchange of certificates for China’s donation of mobile homes to Myanmar and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the space departments of China and Myanmar.
