Xiao Jianguo: The 'Shared Melodies of Books' Gala Deepens China-Brunei Cultural Exchanges

Published at Jul 15, 2025 11:28 am
(Bandar Seri Begawan, 15th) Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Xiao Jianguo was greatly honored to be invited to attend the 'Shared Melodies of Books' gala. First of all, please allow me, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, to extend my warm congratulations on the successful holding of this event! I sincerely thank all friends who have long been dedicated to promoting outstanding traditional Chinese culture and advancing people-to-people exchanges between China and Brunei!
The Ambassador remarked that the name 'Shared Melodies of Books' has a profound meaning, evoking the refined tastes of ancient Chinese scholars gathering by meandering streams to recite poetry and create literary works. It also allows us to feel the cultural emotion and spiritual character carried by the arts of calligraphy and painting.
'Since ancient times, Chinese literati have made friends through poetry, expressed their feelings with ink and brush, and conveyed the elegance of a thousand years with a single sheet of painting. Amidst landscapes and brushwork, they sought resonance of the soul and built deep spiritual bonds between people.'
The Ambassador stated that culture becomes richer through exchanges, and friendship endures through mutual learning. In recent years, people-to-people exchanges between China and Brunei have become increasingly frequent and fruitful. Traditional Chinese culture has been inherited and developed on the warm land of Brunei, serving as a bridge that connects the hearts of the peoples of both countries. Among these, the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Association serves as an important platform, making active contributions to fostering bonds between the two nations.
'Tonight, we gather here to make friends through literature and connect hearts through arts, not only continuing the lineage of Chinese culture but also bestowing new brilliance of our times upon this traditional heritage.'
The Ambassador mentioned that earlier this year, the Sultan successfully paid a state visit to China. The heads of state of the two countries reached important consensus on jointly building a China-Brunei community with a shared future. At the recently held Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs with Neighboring Countries, President Xi Jinping put forward important requirements to promote the building of a community with a shared future with neighboring countries, providing direction for China's exchanges and cooperation with neighboring countries including Brunei. The Embassy is willing to work together with friends from all sectors in Brunei to elevate China-Brunei cultural exchanges to new heights, and jointly paint a beautiful picture of everlasting friendship.
The Ambassador concluded by wishing the gala complete success and wishing all friends ever-increasing proficiency in the arts and all the best in everything!
