(Kuching, 28th) The Supreme Emperor Temple Custodian Committee of the Kuching Teochew Association will be organizing the Bingwu Year Hungry Ghost Festival Ullambana Grand Ceremony starting at 3pm on August 27, 2026 (Bingwu Year, Lunar July 15th, Thursday) in front of the Supreme Emperor Temple at Attap Street. Devotees are warmly invited to attend and offer prayers for the Hungry Ghost Festival.
This year’s Ullambana Grand Ceremony at the Supreme Emperor Temple will continue to feature the "Qiang Gu" (Orphan Rescue) activity, which will be held on the evening of August 27 after the main communal rites of the Hungry Ghost Festival. Lucky-numbered cards will be thrown into the crowd for people to grab, and then participants may collect offerings according to the matching numbers they have obtained.
On another note, merchants and devotees who wish to make offering contributions may go directly to the Supreme Emperor Temple or the Kuching Teochew Association office to collect plastic basins, or contact Temple Custodian Committee Chairman Mr. Lee Soon Long (019-8198528) for inquiries.
The committee calls on merchants and devotees to deliver food containers, noodle towers, gift baskets, food and other offerings to the Supreme Emperor Temple or Kuching Teochew Association office by 3pm on August 27 (Lunar July 15th), so that staff may arrange the offerings on the temporary covered racks set up in front of the temple.
The Custodian Committee welcomes all benevolent people and devotees to start visiting the temple from 3pm that day onwards for worship and prayers, to seek blessings, benefit both the living and the departed, avert misfortune and accumulate good fortune, and wish for national prosperity. All are also welcome to participate in the “Qiang Gu” activity.
Moreover, in conjunction with this year's Hungry Ghost Festival Ullambana Grand Ceremony, the Custodian Committee has begun preparations and arranged several teams of committee members to conduct fundraising among businesses and devotees in various street zones, hoping for strong support from merchants and devotees.
The regions where fundraising for the Hungry Ghost Festival will be conducted include Gambier Street, India Street, Market Street, Hanyang Street, Power Street, Hai Chun Street, Attap Street, Big Well Lane, Lower Side Street, China Street, Batu Lintang Road, You Hai Street, Fragrant Flower Street, Triangle Hill, Song Thian Cheok Road, Pulau An, Wan Fu Road, Damin Road, Hong Qing He, Pending Road, New Fishing Village, Bintawa, Si Kamar, Kenyalang, Hui Sheng Garden, Satok Road, 3rd Mile, Green Road, Batu Lintang, Si Tudung Wet Market, King Centre, and Taman Darwan Jaya.
