The search and rescue operations for the landslide accident in Dangchang, Gansu Province, China have ended, with a total of 21 people confirmed dead.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the Information Office of the Municipal Government of Longnan, Gansu Province held a press conference on Wednesday morning to announce that the search and rescue work at the site of the Dangchang landslide has concluded, and all those trapped have been rescued. Of those rescued, 5 were uninjured, 7 sustained minor injuries, and 21 died.
The landslide occurred at around 6:56 a.m. on Tuesday morning in Rencang Village, Nanhe Town, Dangchang County, Longnan City, Gansu Province, China. The press conference revealed that 33 forest clearing and tending workers from the Minjiang Forestry General Farm were traveling on foot to Baxian Gully, Rencang Village, Nanhe Town, Dangchang County when they were trapped by a sudden landslide. The 33 people came from Rencang Village, Gaoqiao Village, and Rushu Village in Nanhe Town, Dangchang County.
The landslide site was located between Shangzhuang and Dala in Nanhe Town, Dangchang County, featuring steep topography. The landslide body was about 130 meters long, covering an area of approximately 5,400 square meters, with a total volume of about 10,000 cubic meters. It was a shallow-layered soil landslide in a depositional layer, with no residents in the surrounding area.
