Cheng Pei-pei's Daughter-in-law's Breast Cancer Recurs; Son Faces Setbacks with Online Fundraising

Veteran martial arts actress Cheng Pei-pei passed away last July at the age of 78. She had three daughters and one son with her ex-husband, Taiwanese businessman Alvin Yuen. Her eldest daughter Maria Yuen and third daughter Eugenia Yuen both followed in their mother's footsteps into showbiz, while her youngest son, Yuen Ho-yu, works as a program host. Unfortunately, Yuen Ho-yu's foreign wife, Andrea, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 shortly after giving birth, news that shocked the public.

After Andrea was diagnosed, her family launched a crowdfunding campaign online to raise money for her medical expenses. Thanks to the support from all walks of life, the campaign quickly met its goals, allowing her to begin treatment. However, after more than a year of effort, her condition has not been brought under control; not only have the cancer cells not subsided, but they have also spread to her breast and lymph nodes under her armpit, putting her health in dire jeopardy.

Recently, the couple launched another crowdfunding campaign, hoping to raise 50,000 US dollars (about 210,000 Malaysian ringgit) for medical expenses, planning to go to Mexico for an integrated treatment plan. However, in the four days since the campaign began, they have raised less than 10,000 US dollars (about 42,000 Malaysian ringgit), not even 20 percent of their target.

Yuen Ho-yu recently shared snippets of family life with his wife and two-year-old son on social media. The video shows touching interactions between Andrea and their son, a heartwarming yet poignant scene. He emotionally expressed that he has faced tremendous challenges in recent years: "I became a father, lost my mother, and now I must face my partner's cancer diagnosis." He admitted that fate has forced his family to endure more hardship, but it has also shown him his wife's incredible courage and strength. He called for public support: "This is not a war, but a trial from above. I hope her life can cross the finish line smoothly."
