(Marudi, 17th) Sarawak Deputy Prime Minister, Second Minister of Finance, New Economy, Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, revealed at the opening ceremony of the Marudi Bridge today that under the 12th Malaysia Plan, the Sarawak government has approved 20 infrastructure projects in the Marudi area with a total value of 616 million ringgit to enhance local roads, bridges, and other public facilities.

Among them, the "People's Engineering Program" covers 19 projects valued at 548 million ringgit, while another project funded by RMK-12 is valued at 68 million ringgit.

Currently, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) has completed six of these projects with a total value of 187.7 million ringgit. One project is under construction, and the remaining 13 projects, totaling 422.3 million ringgit, will be tendered this year.

He thanked Sarawak's Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, for his leadership in promoting a series of projects that benefit the people, ensuring Sarawak moves towards modernization and prosperity.

He pointed out that the Sarawak government's infrastructure budget for his department in 2025 is as high as 1.31 billion ringgit, a 64% increase from 2024, setting a historical high, which fully demonstrates the government's determination to promote infrastructure development across the state.

Douglas Uggah stated that the Marudi Padan River Bridge, with a total length of 650 meters, cost 116.5 million ringgit, and includes road connections of 406 meters towards Miri and 390 meters towards Marudi, which meet the Public Works Department (JKR) R5 standards for a single-lane two-way traffic bridge.

He emphasized that the completion of this bridge ends the history of local reliance on ferries for passage, significantly enhancing the convenience of transportation between Marudi and Miri, spurring local economic development, and improving the quality of life for the people.

"Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Sarawak is heading towards a brighter future. The government will continue to listen to the needs of the people, ensuring that all construction plans meet actual needs, drive economic growth, and benefit society."

He urged the people to continue supporting the policies of the Sarawak government and work together towards the goal of advanced and modern development in Sarawak.

Douglas Uggah thanked all parties involved, including the Sarawak Public Works Department, the Miri Resident’s Office, and the Marudi District Office, for their collaboration in promoting the bridge construction and the successful hosting of the opening ceremony. He hopes that the opening of the Marudi Padan River Bridge will bring long-term convenience and economic growth to the local people and further promote Sarawak as a prosperous and progressive advanced region.
