Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol stated on the 1st that Cambodia will nominate U.S. President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaking to the media in Phnom Penh, he pointed out that Trump made efforts to persuade Cambodia and Thailand to reach a ceasefire agreement and end the five-day-long border conflict between the two countries, and therefore deserves the award.
Sun Chanthol praised Trump as a "president of peace."
Later, when Reuters sought to confirm Cambodia's plan to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Sun Chanthol replied, "Yes."
Meanwhile, a Cambodian media outlet published a commentary titled "Why Trump Deserves a Nobel Peace Prize Nomination: The Reasons He Should Win."
The article said: "Trump’s intervention in the Cambodia-Thailand conflict exemplified the essence of modern peace building: it was swift, power-aware, and results-oriented. He did not send troops—instead, he sent a message. When diplomacy stalled, he leveraged trade tariffs to open negotiations and save lives."
"If that is not enough for the Nobel Peace Prize, then the standards for the prize itself need to be revisited."
In addition, White House spokesperson Levitt posted on his official social media platform X about "Cambodia's plan to nominate President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize" and shared a link to a related report by The Wall Street Journal.
Cambodia is not the only nation to nominate Trump. Pakistan and Israel had earlier declared their intention to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
