The government of Alpes-Maritimes announced on the evening of the 3rd that a shooting incident occurred in the Moulins district of Nice, resulting in two deaths and five others injured, one of whom is seriously wounded.
The Nice prosecutor's office stated that it has launched an investigation for "organized group intentional homicide and attempted organized group intentional homicide," and has handed over the case to the Interdepartmental Judicial Police Service of Alpes-Maritimes.
Police and firefighters have rushed to the scene. Nice Mayor Estrosi was also at the scene and described the situation as "tense and chaotic" on social media, characterizing the event as "related to drug gangs, which triggered automatic weapon gunfire."
Alpes-Maritimes Prefect Otheo "strongly condemned this shameful act," and announced that additional police forces will be deployed starting October 4th to ensure the security of the neighborhood and will remain stationed there as long as necessary.
