The US Urges Cooperation on Economic Sanctions Against Iran; China Calls for a Diplomatic Solution

In response to the US urging China and its allies to cooperate on economic sanctions against Iran, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated at a regular press conference on the 21st that China calls on the relevant parties to resolve issues through political and diplomatic means.

He pointed out that China opposes illegal unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council, and calls on the relevant parties to take responsible actions and resolve issues through political and diplomatic channels.

When asked by reporters about the US threatening to launch a "comprehensive economic war" against Iran—and some analysts believe such economic threats are meant to compensate for the US and Israel's failures to wage war against Iran in the military field—how does China view this? Lin Jian said China has always believed that military means and sanctions pressure do not help solve problems and will only heighten tensions; escalating the situation is not in anyone's interest.

He emphasized that China calls for resolving conflicts and differences through dialogue and consultation.
