On the 16th, the Liverpool Criminal Court in the UK pronounced its verdict: 54-year-old Doyle was sentenced to 21 and a half years in prison for driving into a crowd during Liverpool Football Club’s Premier League victory parade in May this year, resulting in 134 people being injured.

Doyle had previously pleaded guilty to 31 related criminal charges.

On May 26th this year, about 1 million fans gathered in the streets to participate in Liverpool’s Premier League championship parade. At around 6 p.m. that day, Doyle was driving into the city center to pick up a friend when he suddenly "lost control in anger," driving into the cheering crowd in a span of 77 seconds, shouting curses as he did so. Many adults and children were thrown or dragged under the car.

Prosecutors pointed out that Doyle’s behavior was entirely dictated by rage, resulting in 134 injuries, including 8 children. The incident not only caused bodily harm but also shattered the crowd's moment of joy.

During the trial, Doyle pleaded guilty to 9 counts of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, 17 counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, among a total of 31 charges. His lawyer stated that Doyle deeply regretted his actions and apologized to all the victims.

Judge Menary condemned the act as “incomprehensible,” emphasizing its “disregard for life and persistent intent to crash into the crowd.”

Police relied on surveillance and phone footage to reconstruct the incident and ruled out links to terrorism.
