US President Trump pointed out on the 1st that India has proposed to lower tariffs on American goods to zero.
He wrote on the social media platform 'Truth Social' that trade relations between the US and India are unequal. India dumps a massive amount of goods into the United States, while US exports to India are negligible. This completely one-sided relationship has lasted for decades.
He stated: "At its root, this is because India still imposes the world's highest tariffs on us to this day, making it very difficult for American businesses to enter the Indian market. This is a complete one-sided disaster!"
He pointed out that India is now proposing to lower tariffs on US goods to zero, but it is too late; they should have done this many years ago.
Trump emphasized that India mainly imports oil and military supplies from Russia, purchasing very little from the US.
Earlier, Trump imposed comprehensive tariffs as high as 50% on Indian goods, citing India's increased oil purchases from Russia.
