Why Is Pets Tseng Always Doing Harmonies? Criticized for Playing a Persona in Masterclass

Published at May 04, 2026 03:45 pm
Taiwanese singer Pets Tseng has recently become popular again due to her participation in Mango TV’s “Ride the Wind 2026” (also known as “Sister Who Makes Waves 7”). She showcased her powerful vocal skills right from her first stage, but in subsequent performances, she often provided harmonies for her teammates, giving others the opportunity to shine. Especially during the third round’s selection phase, she unhesitatingly chose Zhang Huiwen, who couldn’t sing, and taught her until her skills were up to standard. Some even said that Pets Tseng’s support for Zhang Huiwen was almost like a redemptive guardianship. However, this warm-hearted behavior was criticized by some netizens as an attempt to create a persona!

In the recent third round, Pets Tseng’s kind gestures once again stirred discussions. During the selection phase, she resolutely chose the least popular Zhang Huiwen, patiently teaching her singing techniques hands-on. Even in the rehearsal performance of “The First Person I Loved,” unlike other team leaders who scrambled for the center position and lyrics, she allowed her team members to have the spotlight—her own solo was cut down to just 8 seconds. When Zhang Huiwen was unsteady with her breathing while singing, Pets Tseng immediately offered her own beautiful harmonies to cover for her shortcomings, resulting in Zhang Huiwen being praised for remarkable progress. The team also scored 176 points, ranking first among all groups.

Unexpectedly, some netizens accused Pets Tseng’s actions of being an attempt to establish a moral persona or “saint complex.” They claimed she deliberately chose Zhang Huiwen, not stronger participants, to create a talking point, leaving fans dumbfounded who fought back with comments like: “She’s not acting, she’s just being herself,” “She’s here to make positive connections with people, being a good teammate is being truly good at heart,” and “Kindness is in Pets Tseng’s bones, she deserves 100 thumbs up.”
