(Miri, 4th) Sarawak Deputy Tourism Minister and SUPP Piasau Branch Chairman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew calls on kind-hearted individuals in society to lend a helping hand to help 11-month-old baby Rhea Moh Ning Suan regain hearing, allowing her to learn to speak like a normal child.
At a press conference held today by the SUPP Piasau Branch, Datuk Sebastian Ting pointed out that baby Rhea Moh was diagnosed with severe bilateral hearing loss. Since hearing aids are ineffective, doctors recommend implanting a cochlear implant as soon as possible, hoping to restore her hearing before she turns two, thereby improving her ability to learn to speak.
However, the expensive cochlear implant equipment costs up to 125,000 ringgit (excluding surgery fees), which poses a huge challenge for the baby’s family.
Little Rhea Moh's parents, Mao Nien Chiong (31, store manager) and Janet Teng Ling Sieng (26, manicurist, recently joined the insurance industry) are from Sarikei and currently work in Batu Niah and Miri. Janet Teng revealed that the newborn hearing test failed when the baby was born, and an accident of falling from the bed at two months old caught the family's attention. Subsequent checks found that Rhea Moh had completely lost hearing in both ears.
Datuk Sebastian Ting pointed out that currently, little Rhea Moh's parents have managed to raise RM 70,000 through their efforts, but they still face a shortfall of RM 55,000 in funding.
As the chairman of the Miri Cochlear Implant Association, Datuk Sebastian Ting emphasized that the association has successfully assisted 7 hearing-impaired patients in the Miri region to obtain cochlear implants and integrate into normal society. He calls on the public to actively donate to help Rhea Moh regain her hearing, allowing her to have a happy childhood and a normal life.
“The earlier the cochlear implant is done, the better the results. We hope the power of social love can help this family realize their dreams soon and open a world of sound for little Rhea Moh.”
Those interested in donating can transfer funds to the SUPP Piasau Branch's bank account:
Account Name: Sehati Service & Information Centre
Bank: Alliance Bank
Account Number: 1102 7001 0015 028
Janet Teng also calls on everyone to pay attention to children's hearing health issues and support Rhea Moh’s fundraising project to jointly help her “hear the future”.
Datuk Sebastian Tin promises to announce the fundraising progress daily, hoping public support can help Rhea Moh receive treatment as soon as possible and start a new chapter in life.
