In Langfang, Hebei, China, a 24-year-old female kindergarten teacher named Zhou Yi was recently stabbed 13 times by a stranger on her way home, tragically resulting in her death. The assailant was previously diagnosed with a mental illness. Zhou Yi's mother revealed to the media on Thursday (22nd) that the assailant's actions were coherent and did not resemble those of a mentally ill person. They are currently applying for a second mental evaluation of the perpetrator.
Zhou Yi's mother expressed hope that the assailant would be sentenced to death.
According to Zhou Yi's mother, Zhou Yi graduated from university and worked at a kindergarten in Guangyang District, Langfang City. On the evening of February 26th, around 8 PM, she went swimming with colleagues after work and was walking back to her dormitory while video calling her mother. They talked about the upcoming Women's Day and planned to celebrate it together.
However, during the call, Zhou's mother suddenly heard her daughter's cries and then a scream. Zhou's mother thought it was a robbery at first, but before she could react, she quickly contacted another daughter to go to the scene.
Unfortunately, when Zhou Yi's sister found Zhou Yi, she was already lying in the hospital morgue, no longer breathing, leaving the family with unbearable pain.
It is reported that the assailant is a 34-year-old man who wielded a long knife, and Zhou Yi suffered 13 stab wounds. The man has been arrested by the police. Zhou's mother mentioned that after the crime, the assailant went home to clean himself and the weapon. He specifically targeted Zhou Yi because she appeared frail. Although the assailant was previously diagnosed with a mental illness, Zhou's mother expressed disagreement with this assessment.
On the afternoon of May 22nd, Langfang police stated that the suspect has been apprehended and the case is under investigation, but details cannot be disclosed.
On May 23rd, Guangyang Branch of Langfang Public Security Bureau informed that on February 26th, a criminal case involving a stabbing incident occurred in Guangyang District, resulting in the death of Zhou (female, 24 years old). Upon receiving the report, Guangyang Public Security Bureau promptly initiated an investigation and arrested the criminal suspect Xie (male, 33 years old), who has been subjected to criminal detention and coercive measures according to law.
