(Sabah, 1st) — Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal confirmed that after the conclusion of the 17th Sabah State Election on Saturday, he has not met with any political party leaders.
He said that he would only meet with relevant party leaders during the sitting of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly.
“No... I just went straight to sleep. After several days of campaigning, I felt exhausted, and I’ve also been working for more than four years. During this election, I did not meet with any party leaders.”
On Sunday (November 30), when asked at a press conference whether he had met with any party leaders or discussed the possibility of forming a coalition government to govern Sabah, Shafie responded as above.
Asked whether, following the release of the Sabah state election results, Warisan is prepared to play the role of the opposition, he pointed out that the party is assessing the situation based on the experience of forming the government in 2020.
“We shall wait and see. I know that previously both GRS and Barisan Nasional governments were unable to stay in power for long. What I mean is, the political situation in the state is constantly evolving.”
In addition, he emphasized that Warisan will continue to strengthen cooperation among Sabah local parties while maintaining relations with the federal government.
“We want a government that is clean, free from corruption, loopholes, and abuse of power. This is what the people want. We do not want their trust to be shaken, and we must uphold this trust.”
He said that from the beginning the party has declared its willingness to work with local parties to ensure the best governance for Sabah.
“At the federal level, we will assist any government in office, but in Sabah, local parties should decide the direction, because we understand the expectations of the people.”
On Saturday (29th), Shafie successfully defended the Senallang state seat in a four-cornered fight, winning with 8,751 votes and a majority of 6,837.
