(Seremban, 15th) In order to ensure that the democratic process for the Negeri Sembilan state election proceeds smoothly and orderly, a total of 5,953 personnel from the Negeri Sembilan Police Headquarters and other agencies will be on duty during the state election.
Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Dato’ Azafini pointed out that these personnel include 4,845 police officers and police staff, while the rest are members of support teams such as the Volunteer Security Corps and Volunteer Police Force.
“We are currently on high alert, and have meticulously deployed various preparations from the very beginning, including safety, traffic control, monitoring of campaign activities, law enforcement, as well as responding to any eventualities that may arise during the election period.”
He told Bernama in an interview that the police will continue to assess the situation, and does not rule out seeking additional support from other states if necessary to strengthen the existing police force and ensure the implementation of more effective operations.
Meanwhile, he said, the police always respect the right of all parties to conduct campaign activities lawfully.
“Moving forward, we will step up security supervision and control to ensure that all campaign activities, including political talks, party parades, and election-related events can be held peacefully and in compliance with regulations set by the authorities.”
He said that any individuals or groups who violate the law, provoke, or engage in acts that may disrupt public order and affect the smooth conduct of the democratic process will be dealt with severely.
He also called on all parties, candidates, supporters, and the public to practice a mature political culture, respect differing opinions, and abide by the law during the campaign period.
The public is further urged to avoid participating in any form of provocation, spreading of fake news, or engaging in behaviour that could trigger tension or threaten social harmony.
The Election Commission has set August 1 as polling day for the Negeri Sembilan state election, with nomination day on July 18, while advance voting is scheduled for July 28.
