(United States, 28th) — U.S. President Trump stated on the 27th that the Strait of Hormuz does not belong to any single country's jurisdiction, and warned Gulf ally Oman that if it does not follow the rules, it will be bombed.
During a cabinet meeting at the White House, when asked whether he would accept a short-term deal for the Strait of Hormuz to be jointly controlled by Iran and Oman, he said that the strait is international waters and should be open to everyone, not controlled by anyone.
He stated that the U.S. will maintain order in the strait, but no one will control it. This is also part of the U.S. negotiations with Iran.
Trump pointed out that Oman, like other countries, must follow the rules: "If they don't play by the rules, we will just have to bomb them. They’re well aware of this, so they’ll behave themselves."
No Consensus Yet on Strait of Hormuz Issue
Iran's Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Bagheri, said that Iran and the United States have not yet reached an agreement on issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated that Iran and Oman are currently discussing a new mechanism for ship passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and indirect contact between the U.S. and Iran continues.
Bagheri also pointed out that Iran’s enriched uranium issue is currently not on the agenda of U.S.-Iran negotiations.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy transport waterways, with Oman and Iran lying on opposite sides of the strait.
