(Bandar Seri Begawan, 8th) The inauguration ceremony for the new (2026-2027 term) committee, youth group, women’s group, and senior group of the Sibu Foochow Association was grandly held on June 7, 2026 (Sunday), in conjunction with the Filial Piety Festival luncheon at the 6th floor banquet hall of Kingwood Hotel, Sibu.
The key details of the latest inauguration event are as follows: Event time: June 7, 2026, 11:30 am; Venue: 6th floor banquet hall, Kingwood Hotel, Sibu. The new leadership lineups for the youth, women’s, and senior groups were smoothly formed during the election meeting on February 8, 2026, and were officially inaugurated at this June 7 luncheon.
Dr. Lau Sia Chuan, President of the Brunei Foochow Ten Districts Association, led a ten-person delegation to attend this event. The delegation included Executive Affairs Advisor Dato’ Chang Yong Ping, Advisor Dato’ Wong Chee Yin, Secretary-General Lau Kun Cheong, Mr. and Mrs. Lau Kung U, Hsu Hsiao Pin, Huang Yong Xiang, and Lau Hui Juan.

The new president, Bangkulu Lau Xian Yuan, mentioned that Sibu is known as the “New Foochow.” Over a century ago, the pioneer Huang Nai Zhuang led Foochow forebears southwards to open up new land, from opening up uncharted wilderness to building homes, from enduring hardship to prospering, and, with indomitable perseverance and diligence, wrote a glorious chapter on this land.
Ever since its establishment, Sibu Foochow Association has always upheld the wishes of the forefathers, with the aim of promoting kinship, serving the community, promoting culture, and cultivating the next generation. It has become an important bridge and spiritual home for connecting Foochow clanspeople. This precious legacy is the result of the selfless devotion of generations of leaders and elders, and it is up to our generation to inherit it and continue to carry it forward.
He said, “Among all virtues, filial piety comes first.” Respecting and caring for the elderly is not just a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, but is also an important family value passed down through generations of Foochow people. Over the years, the association has persisted in organizing the Filial Piety Festival, with the purpose of promoting filial piety, advocating respect and care for the elderly, fostering family harmony, and cultivating a good social atmosphere.
The luncheon’s guest of honor, Tan Sri Dato’ Chang Shih Kuo, Permanent Honorary President of the World Foochow Ten District Association, congratulated the successful inauguration of the 39th committee, the 25th youth group, the 21st women’s group, and the 8th senior group.

He said that the Sibu Foochow Association, all along, has upheld the spirit of the forefathers, playing an essential role in uniting clansmen, promoting culture, and advancing education and public welfare, with achievements that are evident to all.
In particular, the ongoing Filial Piety Festival not only promotes the traditional virtues of filial respect and love for the elderly but also ensures that the culture of filial piety continues to flourish in modern society, which is immensely meaningful.
“Looking to the future, in today’s fast-developing era, clan organizations must keep pace with the times and constantly innovate. I hope the new committee, as well as the youth, women’s, and senior groups, can further strengthen unity and cohesion on the solid foundation laid by their predecessors, actively nurture the younger generation, attract more new blood, and keep the association vibrant and the torch burning. Furthermore, I hope Sibu Foochow Association will continue to strengthen ties with Foochow communities at home and abroad, broaden perspectives, deepen exchanges, and showcase the Foochow spirit and excellence on a greater platform,” Tan Sri Dato’ Chang Shih Kuo continued.
At the luncheon, 31 nonagenarians and 555 senior citizens aged 75 and above attended to receive longevity gifts and to participate in the cake-cutting ceremony for the elderly.
